Leadership Level 1: Self-Leadership | Pitfall 2 – The Perfectionism Trap
Last time, we explored how your emotions can quietly sabotage your self-leadership growth. Today, we move into a different kind of resistance—one that wears the mask of high standards: Perfectionism.
It doesn’t scream “I’m failing.” It whispers, “It’s not quite ready yet.”
Pitfall 2:
The Perfectionism Trap
Perfectionism looks like ambition. But really, it’s fear wearing a fancy suit.
What’s Really Happening:
Your brain is trying to protect you from judgment, embarrassment, and failure.
So it convinces you that waiting is wiser than starting.
But the real danger? You never launch. You never learn. You stay stuck.
Perfectionism doesn’t improve your work—it paralyzes your progress.
Transformation Goal:
Shift from “perfect or nothing” to “progress over perfection.”
This means:
Great leaders don’t get it right the first time—they get better through the reps.
Coaching Cue:
“Clarity comes from action, not overthinking. You can’t refine what you haven’t begun.”
Let go of the illusion of perfect timing, perfect conditions, or perfect confidence.
Start with what you have—you’ll build excellence as you go.
